Summary
Electronic Arts recently gave fans an update on its in-developmentIron Mangame, assuring everyone that it is still in progress despite a recent shake-up at developer EA Motive. The past few years have seen an increase in triple-A Marvel video games like theMarvel’s Spider-Manseries and the upcomingMarvel 1943: Rise of Hydra. EA announced a new deal to make superhero titles for the House of Ideas back in 2022. The first will be anIron Mangame from EA Motive, the studio behind the recentDead Spaceremake.
Details about EA’sIron Mangame have been scarce since its announcement, but there have been various updates over the past year or so. EA Motive announced that it was starting production on theIron Mangame last February, and EA would later reveal that itwill be using Unreal Engine 5rather than its proprietary Frostbite Engine. Things haven’t been easy though, as EA announced that it would be laying off 670 employees back in February, a controversial move that ultimately led to Respawn’sStar WarsFPS being canceled.

Motive Studio General Manager Patrick Klaus recently confirmed that the developers’Iron Mangame is still moving forward in a post on theEAwebsite. Even as a group of developers at the studio are being transferred towork on the nextBattlefield, Klaus reported that development onIron Manis proceeding under Executive Producer Olivier Proulx and Creative Director Ian Frazier. “The team made excellent progress this year,” Klaus added, stating that Motive hit a major internal milestone and “laid a robust foundation for the journey ahead.”
EA’s Iron Man is Still a Mystery
Patrick Klaus didn’t disclose any new information on what theIron Mangame is about or when fans can expect to see an official release date. What is known so far is thatIron Manwill be a single-player, third-party action title with an original plot, rather than an adaptation of an existing story from the comics like Extremis or Civil War. If successful, Motive’sIron Mantitle could lead to even more Marvel games from EA, but the only other such project confirmed so far is aBlack Panthertitle from Cliffhanger Games.
There is much aboutEA Motive’sIron Mangamethat is still unknown, but the idea of taking control of Tony Stark’s incredible high-tech armor with the level of polish shown in recent Marvel games like Insomniac’s well-receivedSpider-Manseries is an exciting prospect for many gamers. It will still be some time before EA Motive is ready to show itsIron Mantitle in action, but fans can take comfort that development is proceeding well.
