Dungeons and Dragonshas been a part of theStranger ThingsDNA from the very first episode of the hit Netflix show. That connection hasn’t faded over the years, as the game continues to be mentioned and seen throughout each season and the actors from the show appear on various live plays to help promote both the tabletop RPG and their own projects. The latest crossover brings four fan-favorite actors from Stranger Things around a virtual table to play througha holiday-themed adventure in Icewind Dale.
The adventure brings David Harbour (Jim Hopper), Finn Wolfhard (Mike Wheeler), Natalia Dyer (Nancy Wheeler), and Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin Henderson) to the table and the session if DM’d by a face that will be very familiar toDungeons and Dragonsfans, Principle Game Designer Chris Perkins. Some fans have already noted the irony of Will (Noah Schnapp), who is begging to play DnD through most of the last season, being absent from this game with his friends and co-stars. The one-shot, entitled Toy Time for Ten-Towns,takes theStranger Thingscast up northwhere everything from the weather to the shady figure in the corner of the bar can be a deadly obstacle.

Chris Perkins has had a lot of experience DMing for celebrities thanks to otherDnDevents and he is clearly comfortable in the role here. The cast also includes some natural players and big personalities, which makes the group a lot of fun to watch. The live play aired this week on theStranger ThingsYouTube channel and is now available to watch the full way through. The entire adventure comes in just over two hours and is well worth binging right here…
There is still no official release date for Stranger Things season four yet, so this may be the only chance to see fresh content from this cast for the next few months. AStranger Things season four teaser trailerwas released earlier this year, but it seems likely that the content won’t drop on Netflix until late 2021. The show has a history of releasing in October, sometime near Halloween, so some fans are betting that will be the case again, although Netflix has not confirmed that speculation.
If the setting of Ten Towns seems interesting to any viewers, then they may want tocheck out Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaidenand find a group of players to work through the massive campaign with. The content is quite a bit darker and a lot less holiday-themed than the Stranger Things adventure, but it is about an eternal winter that players need to attempt to overcome.
