The infamous codebreakers at r/raidsecrets are getting deeper into the mysterious track that theDestiny 2Twitter account had published yesterday. Even though there is no definitive conclusion, it seems there is still more to thedeceptively simple and vague tweet.

Bungie is known for hiding messages in the media they share and the internet is very good at finding them. However, this tweet may prove to be a challenge as the search hasn’t yielded any decisive results yet. Regardless,Redditors have now compiled all their findingsand new discussion points have popped up.

The more lore-savvyDestiny 2fans have gone back to the lore books from the past year to find possible connections. The recording appears to have a few major links to Darkness related lore. The first is that it might be a direct transmission from the Darkness itself, the evidence being that the Darkness has reached out to players in the past year and is capable of sending visions/messages to Guardians. The Darkness was seen conversing in the Unveiling lore book and in the last Shadowkeep campaign cutscene. This message may be another way in which it talks, even though players may not currently understand what it’s trying to say.

The Traveler, the Darkness' counterpart, has also sent unintelligible messages in the past, to Guardians and Speakers alike. Specifically, the Speaker of the Last City finally understood what the Traveler was trying to say after he made his mask. It acted as an instrument to focus and clarify the Traveler’s calls. It is possible that in-lore, or even as part of gameplay, Guardians will have to use something that fulfills the same purpose as the Speaker’s mask to understand the messages from the Dark, like the one players are trying to make sense of right now.

Furthermore, there are accounts of what the Darkness and Traveler actually sounded like during the Collapse. Sinceevidence points towards a second Collapse, these descriptions might provide clues. The Black Armory Papers, which detail the Collapse, describe the Darkness sounding like “a machine being stretched and compressed.” Bungie’s recording does resemble this description. The recording also sounds like an industrial age factory, from the echoes of metal being cut and welded to the reverberating clangs and hisses of machines.

Meanwhile, a Speaker recounted the Traveler’s speech during the Collapse as incomprehensible, saying that it told him “everything and nothing all at once.” The transmission Bungie shared is full of various tones, yet it doesn’t provide a clear message, echoing the Traveler’s babbling. If this parallel is true, players may be able tounderstand the Darknesswhen there is no interference, possibly how Eris did after she communed with the statue players encountered during the finale Shadowkeep.

Destiny 2is available on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
