Summary
Destiny 2has been riding a wave of increasing popularity over the past few weeks thanks to the incredible amount of new and repurposed content coming with the free Into The Light update, adding a plethora of new chase guns, old Exotic missions, new PvP maps, and more. Into The Light is being praised as one of the best content releases ever forDestiny 2, both considering its free price tag and the fact that this update was not even planned, as it was conceived as a result of The Final Shape being delayed to June 4. Mixing the fact thatDestiny 2’s Into The Light is bringing back old glories in a new vest with the nostalgia boost from seeing all the returning missions means it can capitalize on this even more with one trick.
It’s not uncommon for games with multiple entries to capitalize on nostalgia from previous entries, andDestiny 2’s Exotic weapons and armor pieces often come back from the original title, albeit in a reworked fashion to better fit the current sandbox. With such a strong nostalgia feeling withInto The Light’s Brave Arsenaland The Whisper and Zero Hour missions,Destiny 2could bring back three belovedDestiny 1Exotic weapons and combine them into one.

Destiny 2 Should Reprise D1’s Dark-Drinker, Raze-Lighter, and Bolt-Caster Exotic Swords
Dark-Drinker, Raze-Lighter, and Bolt-Caster Can Be Fused Into One Exotic Sword
Destiny 2’s Exotic selection currently features four different swords, but arguably only one of them saw some use in high-end content, and that’s The Lament. Swords like Black Talon, Heartshadow, and Worldline Zero don’t really have a strong utility in most activities outside of fun combinations, and most of the time it’s hard to justify their Exotic slot over many other items. With so manyDestiny 1Exotics coming backover the years, now would be the perfect time to bring back Dark-Drinker, Raze-Lighter, and Bolt-Caster, but not as individual weapons - rather, as a single Exotic.
Destiny 2’s Dead Messenger, Hard Light, Borealis, and other weapons all have the ability to change between their damage type as players please, which can be a great boon in some activities and it can spark interesting combos with the new 3.0 subclasses. Bringing back the original Dark-Drinker, Raze-Lighter, and Bolt-Caster as a single weapon capable of changing elements and effects would not only be great for nostalgic players, but it could also be a fun and rather unique addition toDestiny 2’s arsenal.
Destiny 2’s 3.0 Subclasses Can Take Dark-Drinker, Raze-Lighter, and Bolt-Caster to The Next Level
How Dark-Drinker, Raze-Lighter, and Bolt-Caster Can Use Element-Swapping and 3.0 Keywords
Many of the element-changing weapons inDestiny 2don’t really have additional effects upon changing their damage type, but rather, they have a general perk that applies to all of them. SinceDestiny 2’s swordsare not often used, and the only meta Exotic is The Lament, giving players a new option that can shift between elements at will and maybe have some different subclass keywords tied to each damage type could prove extremely popular. The problem is that these swords' Exotic perks all turned into regular Legendary sword frames, so to justify their potential return, they need something more.
A good way of doing it would be to have the new Exotic be a combination of all three swords, and upon switching elements, players can get Dark-Drinker’s special attack with Void alongside a debuff like Suppress, Raze-Lighter’s uppercut with Solar alongside something like Radiant, and finally Bolt-Caster’s ranged attack with Arc and possibly a Blind AoE. Tying the element-switching mechanics to the different sword frames while also giving them unique keyword effects would warrant the Exotic slot, and it could be a great way to bring back these pastDestiny 1swords and make them better than ever. WithDestiny 2’s The Final Shapebeing all about the connection to The Traveler’s Pale Heart, such an Exotic could be a perfect fit for Bungie to add.
