Bungie’sDestiny 2community manager Dylan Gafner, more commonly known as dmg04, has chimed in on all the feedback he’s collected about the game’s current implementation of the weapon crafting mechanic. Namely, the ongoing Season of Plunder seems to enforce a heavier emphasis on grinding a substantial number of different craftable weapons, and the community doesn’t seem to be overly enamored with the idea.

The introduction of weapon crafting toDestiny 2has been facilitated through the so-called Deepsight (red border) weapons. Collecting and dismantling a set number of Deepsight weapons of a specific type (usually five of them) allows players to unlock a permanent crafting recipe for it, which then makes it possible to craft it with virtually any perk and stat combination that the player wishes to have access to.

Destiny 2’s weapon craftingis, for all intents and purposes, a long-term investment that attempts to engage players for long periods of time. The specific changes introduced to the system with Season of Plunder, however, seem to have pushed things a bit too far, as the community hasn’t been thrilled with the amount of grind necessary to attain weapon recipes. In his latest post on theDestinysubreddit, dmg04 responded to player feedback with a summary of all the important points of contention. He referenced Deepsight acquisition bugs, confusing and/or frustrating seasonal objectives, concerns about the repetitiveness of the system, and a number of other concerns the player base has been raising as of late.

It is, of course, worth pointing out that Bungie recently made agreat change to Deepsight acquisition inDestiny 2, when it introduced a guaranteed drop of one Season of Plunder Deepsight weapon per week. Since players need to get at least five of each of the six new craftable Plunder weapons, however, this is still a hefty time investment that not everyone will be interested in dealing with.

Concerns aboutDestiny 2weapon crafting increasing FOMOhad been raised months ago, and at least some of them have already materialized, forcing dmg04 to respond to a veritable mount of relevant community feedback. These issues may become more prevalent still as time goes on, because all theWitch Queen’s seasonal content and, presumably, the seasons' unique Deepsight weapons, will no longer be available for players to farm at their own behest.

Players looking to unlock andquickly level up crafted weapons inDestiny 2do still have plenty of time to do so. The issue, however, will be underlined once again next season, which will only offer a few months' worth of time for players to farm all the Deepsight weapons they’re interested in. Dmg04 himself stated that his chiming in on the matter doesn’t mean that Bungie will immediately act upon this feedback, which suggests that any major crafting changes would not be dropping quickly.

Destiny 2is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
