Dead by Daylightintroduced content based onKonami’s acclaimedSilent Hillfranchiselast year. This fourth anniversary celebration marked the first time the asymmetrical horror game featured a full suite of content from a video game, including Pyramid Head as a Killer, Cheryl Mason as a Survivor, and Midwich Elementary School as a playable map. Soon its second major video game crossover will be available whenResident Evilenters the Fog on June 15.
AResident Evil-themed Chapter 20 forDead by Daylightwas announced last month with a short teaser video featuring a bloodied Umbrella Corporation charm - one that will be available in-game for players who purchase the DLC for $11.99 USD. More details were revealed as part of Behaviour Interactive’s fifth anniversary livestream today, with the crossover prominently featuring 2019’sResident Evil 2 Remakeand 2020’sResident Evil 3 Remake. Game Rant attended a press event leading up to this stream to find out by Daylight’s upcomingResident Evilcontent.

As withPyramid Head coming toDead by Daylightlast year, the biggest selling point of this crossover will be the addition of Nemesis fromResident Evil 3. Called “The Tyrant” in the hellish world created byDead by Daylight’s Entity, Nemesis has T-Virus powers according to Behaviour Interactive creative director Dave Richard. The Killer can attack with a ranged tentacle that infects Survivors, causing them to make more noise with symptoms like coughing and vomiting so they can more easily be tracked.
Infecting Survivors makes them more vulnerable to follow-up attacks, which do damage instead of spreading the infection. Nemesis is also the first character to have AI assistants: Zombies will spawn randomly throughout a map whenNemesis is the Killer, and their attacks spread the same T-Virus infection. Players can find vaccines spawned around the map as well, but these are limited and using them may leave one’s allies vulnerable - similar to theResident Evilfranchise, Richard said.

Nemesis' tentacle attack also gets a longer range for each infection up to two Survivors. Richard said the range of this attack is shorter thanDead by Daylight’s original Killer Caleb Quinn, called The Deathslinger, but it will allow Nemesis to get off some “trick shots” by attacking over otherwise impassable blockades like pallets and windows.
“He also comes with three unique perks, and we’ve designed the set to make you feel like the ultimate pursuer. A hunter that can use both brains and brawn to cause hysteria and panic among the Survivor ranks.”
Joining Nemesis fromResident Evil 3 Remakeis Jill Valentineas a Survivor, one who has three perks that give her support and offensive capabilities. Her perks are meant to showcase her military training and ingenuity as a S.T.A.R.S. operative, the most prominent of which being the ability to place a mine on Generators that explode when a Killer tries to dismantle them, effectively blinding the Killer.
However, given there were “too many characters to choose from,” Richard said the team decided to add two for this special occasion. A “first-day rookie"Leon S. Kennedy fromResident Evil 2 Remakeis also being added, with perks based around the idea that he aims to protect everyone around him. Leon introduces another new gameplay element alongside Nemesis' AI assistants with the Flashbang perk, that spawns an item without it having to be equipped ahead of time. Richard compares this to the Firecracker item introduced for limited-time events like Chinese New Year in 2017 which distract Killers.

Dead by Daylighthas been focused on revamping its visuals for some time, meaning the development team has erred away from introducing new maps on recent Chapters like All-Kill, which debuted this March. TheRaccoon City Police Station fromResident Evil 2 Remakewill be added in Chapter 20, however, offering a “gorgeous” recreation of the map that has less procedural elements than original locales, but will be full of puzzle elements from the source material. “If you played the game, you’ll be able to find your way around this map,” Richard said.
While Behaviour Interactive previously had crossovers with games likeValve’sLeft 4 Dead,Dead by Daylight’s fourth anniversary was the first time video games truly took a spotlight alongside its host of horror icons from movies and television, from classics likeHalloween’s Michael Myers to more modern representatives likeStranger Things' Demogorgon. TheDead by Daylightteam wanted to focus on adding “classic"Resident Evilcontent for this crossover, in-part because Richard and others played their source games growing up.
Behaviour Interactive CMO David Reid said 2021 being the 25th anniversary ofResident Evilalso played a role in the decision to include classic representatives as opposed to more current characters likeResident Evil Village’s popular Lady Dimitrescu. Neither developer could discuss future content, including potential alternate skins for itsResident Evilcharacters, but even if they only focused on the material revealed during today’s livestream there is a “great” partnership established that may leave things open in the future.
“It’s a tremendous honor to work with Capcom on a franchise with this storied legacy, and this was a way the team wanted to pay homage to theResident Evilfranchise over its 25 years.”
WhileDead by Daylight’s Chapter 20 DLC goes live for all fans on June 15, all of itsResident Evilcontent will be accessible today following the fifth anniversary livestream as part of the game’s Public Test Build.
