WhileChild’s Playis one of the most beloved horror franchises, the 2019 movie starring Aubrey Plaza and Gabriel Bateman is fairly disappointing. There are several reasons why the film doesn’t measure up to the previous seven. But even though the story is lackluster and Chucky himself looks and feels very different, the marketing for the movie was a lot of fun.
BeforeChild’s Playwas released in June 2019, fans were treated to smart and compelling posters depicting familiar and fan-favorite characters. These posters were whimsical, surprising, and memorable. Unfortunately, the 2019Child’s Playreboot didn’t live up to the expectations that these posters set.

The Child’s Play 2019 Posters Parodied Toy Story
There weremanyToy StoryEaster Eggs in Lightyear, the 2022 movie that focused on Buzz Lightyear, and fans were excited to pick them out. This film proved that fans still love theToy Storyfranchise and will watch anything that features these familiar characters.
The 2019Child’s Playposters parodiedToy Storyand proved how much people the franchise. Each one depicted a toy from the franchise that Chucky had done something terrible to. One poster featured Chucky’s hand holding Slinky Dog above a pile of logs that he had lit on fire. Clearly, Chucky had attacked the character and was trying to finish him off. WhileChucky evolves as a horror villainand becomes more loveable, he seems pretty terrifying in this image.

Voiced by Jim Varney inToy StoryandToy Story 2and Blake Clark inToy Story 3andTory Story 4, Slinky Dog is one of the most popular characters. The dachshund with a Southern accent is good friends with Woody, who is voiced byTom Hanks in one of his best roles. It’s hard to look at this poster without hearing Chucky’s demonic, evil giggle.
John Ratzenberger voiced Hamm the pig, who is shown in thisChild’s Playposter lying on the ground and completely destroyed. Fans can see Chucky’s hand in the right-hand corner of the poster as he holds up a hammer. Chucky is often considered one of thescariest horror movie dollsand this poster definitely proves that to be true. If he can attack an innocent toy like this pig, whoToy Storyfans have loved watching for years, then he has no redeeming qualities.

Wallace Shawn voiced the character of Rex the dinosaur who is also shown in oneChild’s Playposter. This time, Chucky is burning Rex, who looks like he is in a lot of pain. When the Blumhouse killer doll movie was released in January 2023, horror fans couldn’t help butcompare the evil dolls M3GAN and Chucky. While it’s possible to imagine M3GAN behaving in this manner, Chucky likes to torment people (and, in this case, toys) while laughing manically and taking immense pleasure in what he’s doing. This poster works so well because it’s possible to feel Chucky’s unique personality.
Voiced by Tim Allen, Buzz Lightyear is another fan-favoriteToy Storycharacter. In thisChild’s Play(2019) poster, Chucky is in the process of destroying Buzz Lightyear’s helmet. Since this character is such a big and beloved part of the children’s franchise, it would have been a shame not to include him in this series of posters.

Chucky is a timeless killer dollbecause he is charismatic, funny, and always keeps horror fans on their toes. This might be the darkestChild’s Playposter of all because it shows Chucky walking away from the fact that he has just killed Woody. It’s easy to think that Chucky doesn’t want to have these toys around anymore because he doesn’t want to compete with them.
The Child’s Play 2019’s Posters Were More Fun Than The Movie
While theChild’s Play(2019) posters tell a fun, fascinating, and dark story that made it easy to be excited about the reboot, the movie was a flop. While the premise follows theChild’s Playfranchise, there are two main problems: Chucky himself and the fact that the film isn’t scary.
Aubrey Plaza played Karen Barclay, the main character whose son Andy (Gabriel Bateman) gets a Chucky doll who slowly reveals its true, evil nature. In this film, Chucky is a Buddhi doll who kills people because of a manufacturing error. This feels more lame than horrifying. In the previousChild’s Playmovies, Chucky is anoriginal horror movie villain. He is endlessly entertaining and fun to watch. This time around, he falls flat and doesn’t feel as engaging.

While theChild’s Play(2019) posters are clever and made horror fans excited about the movie, it didn’t live up to expectations. There are many reasons why some feel that theChuckyTV show is better than the movies. Horror fans should skip the 2019 remake and focus on the other films and the fun TV series instead. The 2019 Chucky doesn’t feel like the same hilarious, intelligent, and quirky villain that everyone knows and loves.
