Having launched in September 2021,Call of Duty: Vanguardhas successfully maintained its own iteration of the ever popular Zombies game mode and even managed to add a few twists of its own to the established formula. Now, almost a full year after its release, Treyarch is preparing to launch the final content update for Zombies and conclude its horrific, if wacky, narrative.

It shouldn’t be overly surprising to hear that, whileCall of Duty: Vanguard’s baseline campaign and setting sit firmly in WW2, Zombies mode is far more lenient with its setting and storyline. Its final chapter, The Archon, will pit players against the villainous Lord Kortifex the Deathless himself once more, though it looks like this encounter should be significantly more final than the last time.

COD: VanguardZombies' Archon chapter was teasedjust a few days back, along with confirmation that its main level progression will be round-based, rather than objective-based. Now, Treyarch has revealed a huge batch of other information about The Archon, which is coming out on August 24. Fans of the mode can expect a big new level set in the deserts of Egypt, a Main Quest to progress through, and a very important boss fight that the developers promise should be “truly memorable” and on a scale that’s not often present inCall of Duty’s Zombies mode.

While theexpectations forCOD: VanguardZombies' Egypt mapwere certainly high, Treyarch seems to have tried making it as exciting and loaded with content as possible. To that end, players will need to complete the Trials of Sacrifice, Resilience, and Mindfulness before facing Kortifex, though they’ll be able to leverage significant new upgrades along the way, thanks to the developer’s decision to include three different Wonder Weapons in the same map: the Ray Gun, Wunderwaffe DG-2, and the Decimator Shield. Players will also have the opportunity to unlock the RA 225 SMG and the EX1 energy rifle should they choose to do so.

After the success ofShi No Numa inCOD: VanguardZombies, the community was disappointed with how long it took for Treyarch to circle back to round-based progression and combat. Much of the game’s previous Zombies content was instead focused on objectives completion and light puzzles to break up its combat. Since The Archon features a round-based level, however, its final push should give the community what it always wanted, at the very least.

Keeping all of the above in mind, most of the previously relevantCall of Duty: VanguardZombies tips and tricksought to apply to the mode’s final chapter, too. With a wealth of new content and what appears to be a true return to form in regard to progression, fans of Zombies should use this opportunity to enjoy themselves. The next iteration ofCall of Duty,Modern Warfare 2,won’t have Zombies, meaning the next chapter of the popular mode is pretty far out at this time.

Call of Duty: Vanguardis available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
