Destiny 2developerBungiehas always been involved in various pro-social, healthcare initiatives, both internal to the company itself and external projects, sometimes even launching its own plans or charity events. A great example comes from the iPads for Kids initiative that Bungie launched for hospitalized children to feel some relief while playingage-appropriate games, using learning programs, or reading interactive books during what would otherwise be a stressful time. Bungie is also known for its inclusivity programs for its employees, with plenty of tools and events for LGBTQIA+ individuals and people of color to access.
On May 4 of this year,Bungie shared a statement that it would support fundamental healthcare rightsback when a draft decision of the U.S. Supreme Court leaked, which was about overturning Roe v. Wade, a historical verdict that goes all the way back to 1973. Roe v. Wade is considered essential healthcare right for citizens as it protects pregnant women’s choices concerning their pregnancy and the ability to get an abortion.

Today, the Supreme Court of the U.S. did in fact overturn Roe v. Wade, a decision that was met with backlash online due to it negating those very basic healthcare rights to people in need – millions of American citizens who may have to face hardship if their states ban abortion. However, Bungie immediately launched an initiative that protects its employees from similar outcomes by issuing funds that willcover all travel expensesif said employees need to get healthcare elsewhere, from reproductive to gender-affirming healthcare options.
The message was shared on Twitter by one ofBungie’s Senior Community Managers, Dylan “dmg_04” Gafner, as well as the main Bungie page, and it’s a screenshot of the now live update to the initial May 4 statement made by the company. Bungie’s CEO and Bungie Foundation CEO Pete Parsons also commented on Twitter on the decision made by the Supreme Court, stating that Bungie will always protect its people and their happiness. The new benefit being added for Bungie employees is called “Travel Reimbursement for Unavailable Healthcare,” and it is effective immediately.
Not too long ago,Bungie employees praised the company’s health insurance planto the point that some commented about them leaving their previous studios and going to Bungie specifically for that reason. As such, it doesn’t come as a surprise that Bungie is once again supporting its employees during a difficult time for everyone who is affected personally or has friends and family who are.
