Rollerdromeis not a smash hit like some other indie games this year but it is doing well in reviews. There are a lot of things to praise about the experience including the art style. The design is seemingly inspired by 70s and 80s movies centered around games of death. The Running Manis anyways a good example to bring up.

There are tons of indie games with cel-shaded graphics like this, butRollerdromemanages to rise above and create its own little niche. The gameplay idea is also worth praising as it combines skating games with something akin toFortnite. As fun as the game is right now, it could also use some tweaks in a future patch or two.

7Add Multiplayer

There are several ways multiplayer could makeRollerdromebetter. The first is through a versus deathmatch mode. The overall narrative does focus on the heroin, Kara, taking down waves of competitors in a game of death. Adding in online players would be like a new take on the Battle Royale genre and would make sense in the context of the game’s world. The developers could additionally, or add ina co-op mode. It might be fun to take on the campaign with a friend even if they were just a robot and not a named character like Kara.

6Needs A Photo Mode

One of the best things about the game is its visuals. The cel-shaded art style is seemingly inspired by70s and 80s movieposter art and it looks striking in 3D. The best part about the visuals is all of the colorful explosions that can erupt from battle. The shameful thing about all of this is that there is no photo mode in the game.

This seems weird as there is no multiplayer or online component which is usually the reason why developers are hesitant to include a photo mode. Whether multiplayer gets added or not doesn’t matter as photo mode should be at the top of the patch list.

5Add An Endless Mode

If adding multiplayer toRollerdrometurns out to be too hard then other offline modes would be nice to have. Since the game is based on a death match-like scenario, there should be something like a horde mode to tackle. Players could compete for high scores as they battle against an endless wave of enemies.

The longer they survive, the higher their score can become. The game could even include rewards for high scores like cosmetic items. This idea seemsperfect for co-opas well, but again, if multiplayer is too hard then surviving alone would be just as fun.

4Skip The Tutorial

The game is not that complex of an idea. It adds guns toa skating gamelike theTony Hawkfranchise. For those that have played a skating game before, those mechanics should feel at home and the same is true for the shooting mechanics. The tutorials are nice to have for beginners and for those that need a refresher.

However, for veteran players, it can feel like a chore. There is no way to skip these segments either and they pop up sporadically throughout the campaign. They’re not a huge pain to go through but it would be nice to have an option to skip them.

3Add Melee

Incredibly, there is no melee attack in this game. Even thebiggest hardcore shootersout there likeCall of Dutyallow players to melee enemies if they wish to. All players have inRollerdromenow are four guns. They are all fun to use from the dual pistols to the harpoon-like sniper rifle.

However, giving players a melee option would broaden the combat even more. Sometimes it’s nice to get a melee kill in a shooter because it can feel more visceral. The developers don’t need to add in a robust combo system rivaling that ofGod of War. A simple punch or slap from a gun would suffice.

2Guns Should Use Separate Ammo

As great as the four weapon choices are, there is one problem besides the lack of melee. All four guns use the same amount of ammo and the bullet count is different for each round. For example, the grenade launcher includes two rounds while the pistol has twelve.

Using one shell from a grande launcher will use half of the pistol’s ammo. One of the best strategies to usein a shooteris to empty a gun’s clip and then switch rapidly to another gun to continue the bloody mayhem. Taking that option away from players can feel odd for shooter veterans. That’s why a patch should fix this by making these ammo types separate.

1Add More Costumes

Kara wears a red jumpsuit throughout the entire campaign. After players finishRollerdrome, they will unlock a new campaign that takes place a year later. Kara will sport a black jumpsuit instead as she competes in remixed stages.

Giving her one new outfit is all well and good but it would be better if players got to customize Kara more readily from the start. A simple color menu would be a nice feature to have. Another idea would allow players to change their avatar completely by playing as one of the sniper-type assassins instead. This idea would make the most sensein multiplayer mode, but it is still worth mentioning in this section.
