There are so many different and interesting characters in theMass Effectfranchise, that it is normal for each player to have their favorite group of beloved characters. One of the reasons this game is still so popular and has such high replayability is exactly that:fans can’t get enoughof the different races, personalities, and interactions that these characters have.

Whether someone playsMass Effect: Legendary Editionfor the first or 30th time, they will get lost in a universe created out of brilliance, with interesting storylines popping out of everywhere, and with difficult but rewarding choices that they would have to make.

7Garrus Vakarian

With quick wit, a sharp mind, and a bit of a rebel, Garrus is definitely one of the most beloved of beloved characters in the Mass Effect franchise. Even though he is a turian and was naturally raised in a militaristic environment (plus he works as a C-Sec officer), hedoesn’t hesitate to follow his instinctand trust Shepard and his team in order to investigate - even though he was instructed not to.

It is truly amazing to see Garrus changing his ways to be comforting to those who need it and ruthless with the ones he hunts. He is also very open-minded, especially when one considers how he was raised and what he came to believe in his early years about the history he shares with other races.

6Urdnot Wrex

Games have this amazing ability to make the players love characters that they would either despise or be afraid of (or both) in real life. One prime example of this is Wrex, a krogan mercenary who quickly becomes a character that players can’t imagine the game without.

Wrex is a war machine: he combines biotic abilities with superbly advanced weaponry and is quite famous as both a mercenary and a bounty hunter. When he collaborates with Shepard, he adds an interesting flavor to the team: he has some strong ideas that he can’t let go of, but he also has the ability to change some of them and be a proper teammate.

5Grunt

Grunt could bethe perfect killing machine—if he wasn’t Grunt. He is a krogan that was produced in a tank by Okeer, who got obsessed with creating the perfect krogan. As fate would have it though, Grunt gets stuck with Shepard, and this match is the reason for a lot of comic-relief scenes and general mayhem.

Grunt is the combination of an average teenager and a war-loving mercenary, which, naturally, means that he is not very good at following orders if those orders mean that he has to stay put or do what he considers menial tasks. He is unpredictable, full of doubt, and hot-headed, but he is also an amazing soldier that can grow to respect Shepard more than anyone else.

4Tali’Zorah

She is one of the characters that will get mentioned as a romanceable character more times than she will get mentioned as a great warrior, but not this time. Yes,she is a romantic choice, but she is so, so much more than that. Tali is a mechanical genius, a great traveler, and someone who is not afraid to speak their mind or admit that they have made a mistake.

The fact that Tali is one of the characters that express their feelings the most, even if those feelings are not exactly always relatable, makes her a character that the player really comes to care about and wants to succeed. She is also a source of super valuable information, so there’s that as well to add to the general liability of this lovely quarian.

3Liara T’Soni

This asari researcher combines so many amazing qualities, that if she hadn’t had her “bad” moments, she would be too good to be true. She isa romanceable characterfor both female and male Shepards, which makes her a very popular choice, especially since the developers made her extra cute, although a different species.

She is also a bit of a rebel since everyone expected her to follow a career path like her mother who is a prominent figure, but she decided that studying the Protheans was going to be her subject and became enamored with it.

2Mordin Solus

One reason fans might love Mordin so much is -let’s admit it- because of his face and those expressionless expressions. He is also very good at his job, which always helps with the likability of a person, and since his job is of a medical and scientific nature, he is also a valuable member of Normandy.

He first helps Shepard with the plague that wiped out the Blue Suns Forces and also gives him a weapon “in good faith”. Straight away,a relationship of truststarts being built. And that’s the only kind of relationship a player can have with Mordin since he can’t be a romanceable character (although trying it is a lot of fun!).

1Legion

This character ismade to be likable. Literally. Instead of having the regular 100 geth programs installed, it has 1,183. This “mobile platform” has the ability to speak and act independently and has panels on his head that it him mimic the facial expressions of the organics, technically meaning that he can move his face the same way that we can move our brows to show anger, surprise, happiness, etc.

It is the brainchild of Shepard but also of itself, and if the expression doesn’t make any sense, just know that it found one of Shepard’s armor pieces and managed to repair itself. It is supposed not to have the ability of irrational decisions, but with its calculated answers to try and avoid Shepard’s questions, it shows otherwise.
