The PlayStation 4 exclusiveGhost of Tsushima, one of the most highly anticipated releases of the summer, launches tomorrow. But for some of those most excited for the open-world action-adventure game, some disappointing news was revealed today. Best Buy is sending emails to some purchasers of theGhost of TsushimaCollector’s Edition, telling them that their orders won’t be filled. Best Buy, to its credit, is doing its best to make up for the mistake.
According to the email sent to unfortunate pre-orderers who have had theirGhost of TsushimaCollector’s Editioncanceled, there was a system issue at the heart of the problem. In other words, the Best Buy website showed that copies of the Collector’s Edition were available when they weren’t, so, Best Buy doesn’t have enough copies of the Collector’s Edition to meet orders. Due to the limited nature of the Collector’s Edition, it’s impossible to get more copies, and Best Buy simply has to cancel the orders.

Since the cancellation of a Collector’s Edition is such a disappointing experience for pre-orderers, Best Buy is doing something special for those out of luck. Best Buy will be sending a launch edition copy ofGhost of Tsushimato these pre-orderersentirely free of charge. It doesn’t make up for missing out on the Collector’s Edition’s limited edition content, but pre-orderers will still get the game and they’ll save a bit of cash, too.
To repeat, this message is going out via email, so those who have had their orders canceled likely already know about it. There isn’t exactly much time left before launch to send out more emails ifBest Buyneeds to cancel any more copies.
The cancellations were initially presumed to be primarily affecting orders for theGhost of Tsushima Collector’s Editionmade in just the past week. However, at least one pre-orderer says that their order placed the day the Collector’s Edition was announced has been canceled. Some orders placed as recently as this past week with in-store pickup are said to have not been canceled, so it isn’t clear exactly what the problem is. TheCollector’s Edition has been sold outbut briefly reappeared on Best Buy this past week before going out of stock again.
TheGhost of Tsushima Collector’s Editionis a special collection, even among Collector’s Editions. It comes with an art book, a Steelbook, a cloth map, and some digital content, of course, but it also comes with a full-size Sakai Mask, a replica of the mask thatGhost of Tsushima’sprotagonistwears throughout the game. The mask is unique and fun, in addition to being a cool collectible. The package retails for $169.99, making it a pricey acquisition if a box can even be found.
