Part of the popularity ofBaldur’s Gate 3may come from the attachment that players form with the various companion characters. While these characters play a huge part in the story ofBaldur’s Gate 3, they are not the only characters that have been receiving the players' affections.
Plenty of the non-player characters have found the limelight, with players sometimes gushing about them and wishing theycould have been a companiontoo. Realistically, with the amount of depth to each of the characters inBaldur’s Gate 3, there are plenty that could have made the cut. But the following characters are some of the biggest fan favorites to be raised to companion status.

10Mol
Who said that adventuring is an adult-only gig? Mol is the young tiefling leader of a band of child tiefling rogues in the Druid Grove. Despite her age, she has a big role to play in the narrative. She can be present in players' journeys from the start of act one and all the way to act three. Her story is one of an orphan striving to make something of herself.
She stands out for her gray morality, respecting players who are altruistic but putting her own success over that of the kids she oversees. As a tiefling rogue companion character, she could have a tragic fall into a devil’s clutches, reflecting the story of a younger Karlach or the folly of Gale, or a moving rise to success. And the party’s camp would start to look a little more like Fagin’s gang!

9Sazza
Dungeons and Dragonshas long been proving that monsters can be heroes too. While goblins aren’t a playable race inBaldur’s Gate 3currently, there areDungeons and Dragonsbooks, such asVolo’s Guide to Monsters, that have made a playable goblin race that could be adapted. With goblins as a race option, Sazza would make an interesting companion.
Initially found as a druid prisoner in Act One,players can save hermultiple times, even earning an achievement for it. Whether Sazza’s arc as a companion character would be one of a monster trying to integrate into society or just a chaotic goblin to add to the party for a laugh, she’d make for an entertaining melee companion.

8Hope
Hope is a gold dwarf life cleric, who could feasibly join Minsc as a companion character recruited in act three. Hope is just another tortured soul in the devil Raphael’s House of Hope, although she possesses enough strength of will to ask the players for help in navigating her escape.
Despite being encountered for a very brief quest, Hope is immediately gripping, thanks to her uniquely maddened mannerisms masking a genuine and kind person. For players who put the effort into saving her, she could be an intriguing companion character and the only current dwarf companion.

7He Who Was
He Who Was is another character that is encountered for a short quest but leaves an intriguing impression. Fora slightly more sinister run, players could consider siding with him in his trial against the corpse of Madeline in order to gain his companionship and skill as a necromancer.
It would require the implementation of a Shadar-Kai elf subrace, another aspect of the character shrouded in mystery, but may have proven to be a popular companion. After all, the letter that players can find in his camp hints at a larger backstory to the elf. Plus, his harsh white crow would make for a unique camp pet.

6Arabella
Mol isn’t the tiefling kid that most players clamor for as a companion. Arabella has that privilege. She can be rescued from the severe stand-in druid leader in the Druid Grove in act one but, in act two, she reveals to the players that her escapade has caused her to develop powers.
After her parents' tragic deaths, players can look after Arabella at their camp, but she goes her own way in act three, and many players are gutted that she can’t be recruited as a full party member. Many imagine her to have druidic powers, but with a camp already filled with druids like Halsin and Jaheira, the unusual nature of her powers could see her fill the role of a sorcerer.

5Barcus Wroot
As with Sazza, Barcus is a character thatplayers can rescuemultiple times over multiple acts, although he is a little more civilized and benevolent. He is a deep gnome with the overarching goal of rescuing his friend, Wulbren.
As a deep gnome, he would get some interesting unique interactions, but he could also fit a greatDungeons and Dragonsclass not currently included inBaldur’s Gate 3- the artificer. Potentially adapted fromTasha’s Cauldron of Everything, Barcus’s tinkering and explosive inventions would fit this fun class to a tee.

4Isobel
The camp may be getting a bit full of clerics at this point, but Isobel and her partner, Dame Aylin, are beloved characters that players would have loved to see as companions. Of the two, Isobel is the more natural choice for a companion due to her heavy plot ties and ‘half-elf cleric’ already being a viable build.
Her Selune worship would also clash dramatically with the companion Shadowheart’s Shar worship, resulting in an interesting dynamic. While Aylin would also be great as a paladin companion, the game would need to include the Aasimar race as a playable option.

3Zevlor
Speaking of paladins, the tiefling paladin, Zevlor, is a character that many wanted as a companion. His narrative and aims to protect the tiefling refugees coincide with the player’s adventure over a large span of the game, and his loyal personality has caused many to find him endearing.
Currently, the only paladin companion is Minthara, who likely won’t be recruited by players doing heroic runs. For such an entertaining and powerful class, it would be a shame not to make the most of a paladin character as strongly written as Zevlor.

2Ellyka
Ellyka is a feisty and sarcastic tiefling, that many players took a liking to when they met herin Act One. Many were hoping that, despite her initial reservations about joining a party due to her nature as a lone wolf, she would later join the party as a ranger companion.
Unfortunately, the next time players see her, she has been killed by the githyanki. Ellyka fans wish she could have had an arc learning to work in a party, perhaps with some interesting conflicts with the githyanki companion, Lae’zel. Sadly, it was not meant to be, but that hasn’t stopped players from wishing for a different fate for the minor character.

1Alfira
Of all the characters that players wish were a companion, Alfira is usually at the top of the list. A tiefling bard encountered in Act One’s Druid Grove, she won hearts thanks to her gentle nature, striking character design, and moving song. There isn’t currently a bard companion in the game, and Alfira seems like she would be the natural choice.
Baldur’s Gate 3even tricks Dark Urge players into thinking they might be able to recruit Alfira as a companion, but the innocent girl ultimately meets a terrible fate. Of all the lovable characters that would make great companions, Alfira’s lovely nature, potentially long-running narrative, and unique class for a companion, make her a highly popular choice.
