Avatar: Frontiers of Pandorawill be available on December 7, complete with open world co-op support. Ubisoft’sopen worldAvatargamewas first announced six years ago, and now a release date is finally in sight.

TheAvatarfranchise went surprisingly quiet after the record-breaking box office success of the first film, but now the franchise is back in a major way.Avatar: The Way of Waterpassed $2 billion at the global box office, meaningAvatar 4and5are virtual guarantees. In the meantime, fans haveAvatar 3to look forward to next year, and they will also be able to playAvatar: Frontiers of Pandorathis December.

On December 7,Avatarfans will be let loose in Massive Entertainment’s take onopen world Pandora. The newAvatar: Frontiers of Pandoragameplay revealed by Ubisoft showed third-person adventuring as players explore Pandora’s gorgeous jungles on the backs of their ikran. There will also be first-person shooter gameplay, with players fighting against the RDA in battles that look pulled straight out of aFar Crygame.Avatar: Frontiers of Pandorawill be able to experience both the third-person exploration and first-person shooter gameplay with a friend as Ubisoft confirmed that the game has online co-op support.

When is the Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora Release Date?

Along with a gameplay overview,Avatarfans were also treated to a trailer that revealed more about theAvatar: Frontiers of Pandorastory. As revealed by the trailer,Avatar: Frontiers of Pandorais set in the planet’s western frontier, an area unexplored by theAvatarmoviesso far. Players take control of a Na’vi who was raised by the RDA. The RDA then starts massacring the Na’vi under its care, but the player character and some other Na’vi are saved and put in a cryo sleep. 15 years go by, and the player character Na’vi is free to explore Pandora.

As a Na’vi raised by the RDA, the player character has to re-learn what it means to be a Na’vi. Early missions will have players interacting withNa’vi tribesand being taught things like how to bond with their ikran. Similar to how the Na’vi in the movies connect to their Spirit Tree, the player character Na’vi inAvatar: Frontiers of Pandorawill be able to connect to the planet and through that upgrade their skills via a traditional skill tree.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandoralooks exactly as advertised: it is an open worldAvatargame in the style of Ubisoft’s other open world titles. Time will tell if it lives up to the high bar set by the James CameronAvatarmovies, but it certainly has potential.
