Summary
Elden Ringfans are infuriated that an old bug, popularly known as the “Chainsaw Glitch,” hasn’t been patched by the developers yet and continues to be exploited by players in PvP. While FromSoftware has tried to patch it in the past, players have been discovering new ways to recreate it repeatedly, complicating things both for the developer and theElden Ringcommunity.
Glitches are synonymous with huge open-world games, andElden Ringis no exception. Since its release, players have discovered quite creative ways to get past some of the hardest aspects of the game, such as using the famous Lenne’s Riserune farming trick inElden Ring, which made it a breeze to level up early on, or exploiting the game’s physics to obliterate one of the toughest bosses, Mohg, Lord of Blood. While these exploits aren’t that detrimental as long as they are confined to single-player mode, things become much trickier when they seep into multiplayer.

In a new post on theElden Ringsubreddit, user Deadsap266 shared a video of themselves being rendered helpless in the game’s PvP mode, thanks to the infamous chainsaw glitch. In the video, right after the match commences, the player gets instantly hit by the opponent from a great distance, depleting their entire health instantaneously. Perplexed about what just transpired, the user questions whether theyencountered a hacker inElden Ring. Fans were quick to point out that it is instead the chainsaw glitch, which is one of the more annoying bugs that has existed since the game’s release. The fact that the glitch hasn’t been fixed almost two years after the game’s launch has left many in the community frustrated.
Without getting too much into the specifics, the crux of the glitch involves using two separate weapons, the Serpent-Hunter Great Spear, which players obtain aspart of the Rykard Lord of Blasphemy boss fight, and Ghiza’s Wheel, which can be acquired after defeating Inquisitor Ghiza in the Volcano Manor. What makes this glitch deadly is that it combines the best aspects of both weapons: Ghiza’s Wheel’s Spinning Wheel and Serpent-Hunter’s Great Serpent Hunt. In short, combining these two weapons gives players an invisible chainsaw with an extremely long range.

While it can be extremely frustrating to encounter it, From Software had previously patched one of the ways to exploit this glitch. That, however, proved to be futile as players discovered alternative ways to pull it off. As several Redditors have highlighted, it could be possible that it is one of those glitches that involves a much more complicated solution, sinceFromSoftware has quite swiftly fixedElden Ringglitchesin the past. It remains to be seen whether this glitch will ever be fixed for good, but until then, blocking opponents who engage in such skullduggery seems to be the best solution.
