Lunar New Year has arrived, and many of today’s most popular games are joining in on the festivities with a variety of cosmetics themed around this year’s Year of the Tiger celebrations.Pokemon GO’s recently announcedYear of the Tiger eventfeatures shiny Litleo and a bevy of other cat-themed Pokemon, andOverwatch’s annual event featured gorgeous skins for Tracer, Mercy, and several others. Now,Animal Crossing: New Horizonshas revealed its own take on the festivities with plenty of Lunar New Year content coming to the popular simulation game.
Holidays are one of the most exciting times of the year forAnimal Crossing: New Horizons, as the franchise is known for its in-game holiday events. The series regularly celebrates Toy Day each December as theAnimal Crossingversion of Christmas and features many other holidays throughout the year giving their own spin on festive events like Halloween, Thanksgiving, and plenty more. Now, with the Lunar New Year officially kicked off,Animal Crossingis once again championing the holiday spirit with a plethora of items to help players ring in the new year.

Animal Crossing: New Horizonsannounced through the game’s official Twitter account on Tuesday that the game’s Nook Shopping would feature a selection of “fun items” to help players decorate their homes andislands for the Lunar New Year. The screenshot included in the tweet includes a Chinese-inspired design for the player’s house as well as a new door, alongside various pieces of furniture and decoration like a large ornate vase and a decorative fence. The reveal, however, did not mention how long the new Lunar New Year cosmetics would be available.
Earlier in the thread,Animal Crossingalso confirmed several Valentine’s Day-themed items would be available for purchase through Nook Shopping with the romantic holiday just under two weeks away, as well as new furniture and clothing options available for the Japanese holiday of Setsubun. The account had previously revealedthe Setsubun-themed cosmeticsfeaturing seasonal items like bean-tossing kits and even ogre masks available through the Able Sisters' boutique, with players able to purchase the holiday decorations through February 3.
Following the massive success that sawAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsrise to become the second best-selling Switch game of all-time, the popular title has come to a crossroads in recent months. Nintendo previously confirmed the slice-of-life simulation game would receive itsfinal free update in November, while the game also received its first paid DLC,Happy Home Paradise, during the same month. While Nintendo appears to be easing off on the game going forward,Animal Crossing: New Horizonswill leave a lasting legacy on not only the franchise but the Switch as a whole.
